It is expected that PIE will play the major role in approval of events and courses eligible for credits and the extent of those credits.  The following is a description of how this organization works.

Your Chapter has established a committee that will develop programs of qualifying education in the near future.  We hope to work with other technical and professional societies to make qualifying education as widely available, inexpensive, and relevant (i.e., high quality and worth your time and money).  In addition, there are many potential sources of qualifying education, including some vendor presentations and "brown bag" classes.  We'll be looking at all of this.

Cooperative CPC Education Network Organizational Model

Purpose

To organize and administer a network of technical society chapter, peer-to-peer and "in-house" learning to serve the professional engineering community’s continuing education needs

Approach

Create Regional CPC Networks of Technical Societies, Employers and others for Cooperative Continuing Education Opportunities

Target Regions

Target Organizations

NYSSPE

ACEC-NY

ASCE

ASHRAE

ASME

IEEE

ABCD

WEF

FEE

Local Technical Councils

Employers (eg. NYSDOT, NYCDDC)

Others

Stakeholders

Individuals

Chapters in technical organizations

Engineering Firms

Government Agencies

Industry

Academia

How it Works

Prospective member org. invited to join regional network

Member org. agrees to program requirements

Member org. contributes "volunteers" to support program

Each region has a pool of accreditors to certify CPC seminars and audit program

All PIE members will be able to use the accreditation service to assign PDHs to their seminars

Members within the network will be informed of upcoming CPC opportunities.

Why it is needed

To provide diverse, quality, local CPC opportunities to a wide range of professionals for a minimal cost

Many of these seminars already exist and are presented at various organizations’ events

Allow employer’s to use "in-house" training for CPC credit

Provide opportunities for PEs to train PEs

An inexpensive convenient solution to have educational opportunities accredited through the PIE Cooperative Network

Why PIE?

Chartered by NYS-SED

Prepared

By laws

Procedures

Can work for all engineers

Technical societies

Employers

Individuals

PIE Role

Interface with NYS-SED

Bring organizations & employers into PIE (cooperative network)

Train CPC sponsors & evaluators

Monitor and maintain program

PIE Organization

Flexible Approach

CPC Sponsor organization

Org. that provides CPC or "In-House" training

Accept/adopt PIE program

Ex. ACEC, consultant firm, NYSDOT

CPC Program organization

Small volunteer organization

Ex.Technical society chapters

Regional groupings

Network of local training opportunities

CPC Sponsor Organization

Agrees to SED & PIE requirements

PIE verifies capability and compliance

Programs are accredited by PIE

Organization runs CPC courses/ativities

Organization collects attendee information and issues certificates

Documentation is sent to PIE

When it starts:
