MINUTES OF THE

CNY CHAPTER NYSSPE BOARD MEETING

ON

APRIL 11, 2007

I.         Call To Order:

           The President, Mike Hayes, P.E., called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m.            declaring a quorum was present.

 

II.           Approval of Minutes:

           A motion was made, seconded and carried unanimously to approve the             minutes of the February 7 2007  meeting. 

 

III.           Treasurer’s Report – (Tim Taber, P.E.)

No Report.  There was some discussion about dues.. 

 

IV.          Mathcounts – (Mike Hayes, P.E. and Lori Dietz, P.E.)

Mike Hayes, P.E . indicated that a number of schools participating was down to 5.    Mike Hayes, P.E. indicated he would attempt to contact someone at Math League in order to find a way to schedule around the apparent conflict between Math League and Mathcounts.    It is thought that there is a Mathcounts “Power Point” presentation available to promote Mathcounts.  Is there a math teachers association that we can contact? 

 

 

V.          NYSSPE Meetings – (Mike Hayes, P.E.)

Mike Hayes, P.E. reviewed the tentative schedule of meeting dates as follows:

 

Following is a tentative list of meeting dates (first one is firm).  All are lunch meetings on the third Tuesday of the month unless otherwise noted.   Mike is asking each board member as indicated below (names are mostly in reverse alphabetical order) to arrange for a speaker for one of the meetings and help with the paperwork to obtain a PDH.

                May 07 – Short course, 6 evenings (Hayes) – worth 18 PDH’s

                5/14/07 – Celebration of Technology Banquet

     The NYSSPE June meeting will be in Syracuse when John Przepiora, P.E. become President!

 

 

     VI.      Web Site (www.cnype.org) (Dick Simberg, P.E.)

           No report, though there was general discussion. 

 

VII.           Support for Schools – (Mike Hayes, P.E.)

           No Report.  A brief discussion about different organizations such as “On Point for            College” and grants occurred. 

 

VIII.           Scholarship –  (Tim Taber, P.E.)

           No meeting yet.

 

IX.           Newsletter (Mike Hayes, P.E.)

Mike Hayes, P.E. indicated the Tech Societies Council was informed that CNYSSPE would pay $100/mo for newsletters cost for ten months/year.

 

X.           Meeting Attendance (Mike Hayes, P.E.):    

Carl Fahrenkrug, P.E. indicated that he received an email from Karen DeJarnette from MACNY wanting to know whether or not we still want to link the Professional Engineers with the Plant Engineers Council at MACNY. 

 

XI.      New Business: (Mike Hayes, P.E.)

           A.)            Engineer of the Year – Nominate Dick Elander, PE who is retiring

                                                        The motion passed!

           B.)           Chapter Dues -  some discussion about problems NSPE has in their                           billings.                     

XII.     Next Meeting:

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Microwave Filter Company at 12:00 noon.
